PRIVATE APARTMENT

PARIS 13

The project is a 130m² (1400 sqft) flat for a contemporary art enthousiast. She is a woman from a well known french family of art collector and gallerists. It  is located in a tower in Paris 13th arrondissement. The client gave CHHO carte blanche to design a space with as much free wall possible to exhibit her art collection. 
 

She wanted the appartement to be both a gallery for her collection but also a work of art in itself which motivated us to draw great details and to build a real intellectual design process for the planning of the Space. The plan is based on a 70cm wide grid that fits the design of the tower’s façade, it defines volumes and areas of the apartment. The fournitures are a mix between new pieces and some already belonging to the client. We like to mix iconic design pieces with more anonymous vintage or brand new objects and furnitures.

The finishes were apointed depending on the grid. A central box with all technical areas has a cément flooring while outside this box, we renovated the existing mosaic hardwoodfloor and painted it. The walls were all painted in super light grey to highlight the client’s collection of artworks. The different faces of the box are in a light oak finish and the kitchen countertop is in Victoria regia quartzit stone, and zimbabwe granite. We also exposed the concrete of the beams ans some structural walls that were aligned with “the grid”.

Artworks presented are made by french and international artists : Subodh Gupta, Gilles Babrier, Mathieu Mercier, Lionel Sabaté, Prune Noury, Thierry Mouillé , Mathilde Denize ...
